Evaluate Dayton's "greenness" and create a Sustainability Action Plan.
To attract business, investment and residents, it's critical Greater Downtown's appeal as a sustainable community and green place to live, work and play be enhanced. While doing so has environmental and health benefits, it also has several economic ones. Implementing green projects will lower operating costs for businesses and homeowners, reduce pollution costs - and give Greater Downtown a competitive advantage when it comes to attracting and retaining jobs.
- Determine -- then improve -- Greater Downtown's national greenness ranking with a system modeled on SustainLane criteria and using such resources as the EPA Green Communities Toolkit.
- Develop and nurture green job growth and economic development.
- Promote initiatives that encourage recycling and composting.
- Revise public policy to encourage green and sustainable development.
- Investigate the feasibility of establishing a City of Dayton geothermal well field utility.
- Support the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce's Green Business Certification Program.
